Heavy Trash Pick Up (Spring)

The City of Shelbyville’s annual Spring Heavy Trash Pickup will take place April 13-17, 2026, on your regular trash day. There will be no recycling pickup that week.


Residents may dispose of large items such as furniture, appliances (with proper Freon removal certification), wood, and metal. Tires, concrete, televisions, and computers will not be collected.

To ensure service for all 8,600 weekly stops, each household is limited to a reasonable amount, approximately a standard pickup truck load (8x6 feet, no higher than 4 feet). Crews cannot exceed 10 minutes per stop, and excessive piles will be left for the property owner to remove. If needed, supervisors will make final decisions on load limits.

All items must be neatly stacked and separated by material type. The City will not sort through mixed piles.

Outside of this designated week, property owners are responsible for their own bulk item disposal. This can be done one of the following ways:
