2. 2025 Golf Cart Registration

   The Shelbyville Police Department will issue registration permits for golf carts that meet the requirements as defined in I.C. §9-13-2-69.7 and Shelbyville Ordinance §76. et seq. The term “golf cart” means a vehicle with three (3) or four (4) wheels originally designed for operation on a golf course and powered by battery or internal combustion motor. 

   
   

   All golf carts shall have the following minimum safety equipment pursuant to Shelbyville Ordinance §76.08: head lights, brake lights, turn signal, slow moving vehicle sign, full rear view mirror, and a seatbelt for each occupant.  All minimum safety equipment described above shall be functional, and in use at all times while the golf cart is in operation on City streets.

   
   

   To receive a permit, owners must complete the Golf Cart Registration Form and submit to the Shelbyville Police Department during regular business hours, along with proof of insurance and a color photograph of the golf cart.

   
   

   The annual registration fee is Fifty Dollars ($50.00) per golf cart and must be renewed each year.  Revenue generated from the fee will be deposited into the Police Operating Fund to offset the program’s costs.

    I have read and understand the attached City of Shelbyville Ordinance §25-3028. I understand that this registration is only valid for the single golf cart described above, and only valid for the owner listed. I agree to abide by all the rules governing the use of a golf cart within the City limits of Shelbyville, Indiana. I understand that I am responsible for ensuring that anyone that operates or rides in the golf cart is subject to the same restrictions and allowances that are being imposed upon the owner. I understand that violation of the golf cart ordinance can result in a fine from the Shelbyville Police Department.

    I further affirm that the information I have provided is true and accurate, and this application pertains to a three or four-wheeled motor vehicle equipped with all minimum safety equipment described in Shelbyville Ordinance §76.08 and specifically designed for operation on a golf course powered by battery or internal combustion motor.

    Violators of the golf cart ordinance are subject to fines, enforced by Shelbyville Police Department.
